"Does this unit have a soul?" Emerging Trends of Artificial Intelligence in OSH
With the dramatic increase in public awareness of large language models such as ChatGPT, computer vision technology, and the frameworks built by the Internet of Things (IoT), many occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals may be wondering how artificial intelligence (AI) may be applied to better protect people, property, and the environment. In fact, the rapid evolution of AI and machine learning (ML) presents many opportunities for OSH application, but the outlook for the future remains fuzzy. In this presentation, we will discuss the basics of AI and ML, both current and future applications in OSH, how market demand and innovation will influence application and availability, and current research that evaluates the effectiveness of AI in OSH.
